Even looking beyond problems in the composition and procedures of the Search Committee, I am utterly dismayed with Friday’s announcement that the Iowa state Board of Regents is terminating the search for a new President of the University of Iowa.

They are hampering any possibility of finding us a “remarkable” president.

They have squandered any remaining respect that educational colleagues have for our state and its institutions of higher education.

The failure is the Board’s, not that of the Search Committee. We need new leadership on the Board. In the spirit of the recent election results, I ask that they offer their resignations to Gov.-Elect Chet Culver so he can put together a “remarkable” Board of Regents who can work for us and with us.

Enough already!
