The Des Moines Music Commission's goal is to boost the city's live-music industry and build a strong music economy. And to make the city a more fun, interesting and vibrant place.

This new seven-member volunteer group advises the City Council and mayor on ways to make that happen.

That might include reviewing ways to enhance public spaces to better accommodate concerts or re-examining city ordinances banning public dancing after 2 a.m. or governing the posting of fliers announcing events.

To make the best recommendations to the council, the commission wants to hear from the public.

"We need your ideas and suggestions to do this right," said Jason Walsmith, music commissioner and member of the band the Nadas.

You can do that by sharing your ideas at an upcoming forum — ideas that may help Iowa's capital city become a destination for artists, improve quality of life and spur economic development.
