The Board of Directors shall, as it deems necessary, make provision for support services that will enhance the opportunity for all children to take full advantage of the educational program.

The purpose of the School Lunch Program shall be to provide nutritional, balanced meals to the students, on a non-profit basis, and to provide an opportunity for the teaching of nutrition.
School lunch facilities are provided primarily as a service to the students and other school personnel when school is in session. Kitchens and cafeterias may be used by student and other organizations during non-school time with proper supervision. The superintendent shall prepare administrative guidelines covering the use of such facilities during non-school time.
The Director of Food Service shall have the responsibility for directing, supervising, organizing and managing the food service program.

The school district shall operate a school lunch program utilizing state and federal funds, funds received from the sale of school lunches and gifts or other funds legally available for the purpose.
Although it is the goal that the Food Service Fund be self supporting the Board may make expenditures to cover a deficit found in the Food Service Fund at the end of the fiscal year.

The Iowa City Community School District agrees to participate in the National School Lunch Program, to receive commodities donated by USDA and to accept responsibility for providing either free or reduced price lunches to eligible children in the schools under its jurisdiction.
The Iowa City Community School District will uniformly implement the policies outlined by the Bureau of Food and Nutrition that determine children’s eligibility for free and reduced price lunches.

It is the purpose of the School Nutrition Programs (school breakfast and school lunch) to provide students with nutritious and well balanced meals. In order to allow choices to be made regarding a meal's composition, students in grades kindergarten through twelve have the option of declining meal components at lunch and breakfast. This method of meal service is called Offer Versus Serve (OVS).

The pupil transportation policy of the Iowa City Community School District shall be that which is required by the State of Iowa, Code Section 285.1, i.e., (a) Students in grades K-8 shall be entitled to transportation only if they live more than two miles from the school designated for attendance, and (b) Students in grades 9-12 shall be entitled to transportation only if they live more than three miles from the school designated for attendance. Students who have transferred from their originally assigned attendance center are not entitled to transportation.
Exceptions will be made for those children requiring special education.
An elementary student entitled to transportation as set out in paragraph 1, may be transported to and/or from a child care provider within the student’s attendance area upon request of the parent or guardian. The request shall be submitted for a period of time of at least one semester and may not be submitted more than twice during a school year. The specified child care provider must be located more than two miles from the student’s originally assigned attendance center.
The Board of Directors of the Iowa City Community School District shall provide transportation services to nonpublic school pupils as provided in Section 285.1 of the Code only during school years when the General Assembly has appropriated funds to the Department of Education for payment of claims for transportation costs submitted by the school district.
In situations where transportation by school bus is impassable or where school bus service is not available, parents or guardians may be required to transport their children to the public or nonpublic school designated for attendance, the parent or guardian to be reimbursed for such transportation service as specified in Chapter 285, Code of Iowa.
Under special circumstances, as determined by the Executive Director of Administrative Service, taxi service may be used for transporting children to and from school and/or to and from special programs.
In situations where safety conditions warrant, school bus transportation service will be provided.

It shall be the policy of the Board of Directors to enter into contract with a private contractor for school bus transportation.
Providing it is mutually advantageous for a private contractor to furnish the necessary transportation to the school district and the school district to employ and contract with a private contractor, an agreement of intent may be negotiated on a three-year basis for transportation services, subject to the termination provisions of Section 285.5(4) Code of Iowa.
