[January 22 revision:
Latest word is that we have it from 5:45-7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening January
29.]
[January 19 revision:
I have since learned that the classroom mentioned below is only available
in the evenings until 7:30 p.m. Therefore, the current plan is to request
it from 5:30 to 7:30. (We may or may not get that; I'll let you know.)
Those who can come at 5:30 can have some additional online time/experience.
It would be to your advantage to do so if possible. If enough of you have
a class conflict, we will try to save as much as possible of the seminar-specific
exercises until 6:30.]
In response to your stated preference January
15, Sarah Thier kindly got us some informaiton about the Information Arcade,
and I have gone ahead and made a reservation for the "classroom"
for Wednesday evening, January 29, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. -- our normal
class time. This is not binding; we can always cancel (or postpone to later).
We can talk about it on January 22. But if we then decide we do
want it on the 29th, we have it. (If, after one evening, you decide you'd
like to do it again, that's also something we can talk about.)
If you are interested in learning more about
the Information Arcade classroom, you can click here and go to its Web
page: Information
Arcade , and from there move around to learn more about the Arcade
and Library generally.
To remind:
Purpose. This is in response to the suggestion
that it would be useful for all of us as a group to have some common, shared
experience and training with the Internet/Web, including searching/research
techniques. (It's a part of the subject matter we're studying; it's a useful
tool for doing research for this seminar; we're using it with our own Web
pages; and it's a useful lifetime/professional skill to know.) The most
suitable facility for doing this with a group our size is the Information
Arcade classroom.
Location. It is located at the north end
(closest to Old Capitol) of the Main Library (near Madison and Burlington)
on the first floor. Once inside if you can't find it just ask someone.
