One such entity is the Science Station and the McLeod/Busse IMAX Dome Theatre in downtown Cedar Rapids. I have been an educator here for many years and have been privileged to serve on the board of directors at the Science Station for the past six or seven years. We have been through some hard times, but we are working hard to move forward aggressively with cutting-edge science opportunities for young and old alike, as well as offering top-of-the-line movies at the IMAX (‘‘Superman Returns’’ begins June 30). We have an outstanding new director who is strong in leadership skills and is pushing us to new heights. We have a strong development plan and are doing so many cool things at the Science Station. We are an organization and a destination that we, on the staff and board, are proud of, and I hope all of you are as well. Science education is crucial in our school districts and partnerships with places such as the Science Station provide those linkages and support systems for our young people.
Please show your support for our Science Station and IMAX in Cedar Rapids by taking your family there often, as well as encouraging our City Council to help with financial support of the organization. It plays a key role in the vitality of our community — all of us must be willing to step up and support key community organizations and programs. Please join me in this effort.
